PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Friday launched 12 bio-digester plants, with a total capacity of 5,025 kg per day to process waste in a decentralised manner. The Corporation announced that the biogas generated through the plants, will be provided free of cost to city restaurants.
The project worth around Rs 2.5 crore, initiated by the Centre’s Department of biotechnology (DBT) through its Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), was launched by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

The Corporation has executed the project through a tie-up with Flycatchers Technology LLP for which funding will be through the Finance Commission.
The bio-digester unit was today launched at CCP building premise and will be installed at the Kadamba bus stand, Mala Lake composting sheds, CCP site, Goa Reserve Police at Altinho, Cine National Theatre, Rose Garden, NIWS ground, Caranzalem, Campal ground, CCP animal shelter site at St Inez, Police Headquarters and Government Polytechnic Campus. Sawant said that the project is an initiative towards production of clean and green energy.
