City Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Friday chaired a meeting to discuss and chalk out guidelines for restricting the crowd at the places of immersion and other directions within the CCP jurisdiction.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Police Department, Fire and Emergency Services, Deputy Collector North and Drishti Lifesaving.

Speaking to the media persons post meeting, Madkaikar said that the Corporation will come up with its own SOP to be followed during the festival and idol immersions, next week.

“The meeting has decided to restrict the idol immersion timing from 5 pm to 10 pm, with only two – three persons per idol. The Corporation has also identified additional four points for idol immersion apart from its existing six places,” he said.

The Mayor said that the additional points will help us to ensure that there is no crowding at time of immersion. Also, police will be deployed to see that all precautions are followed.

Madkaikar said that there will be ban on participation of people above 60 years of age during the immersion procession.

“Also, we will appeal people to either restrict or to ban complete use of firecrackers during the procession. This may have health impact on the people, thus leading to major worry during current COVID crisis,” he said.

Mayor also said that people are requested to restrict the celebration within the family and not to visit anyone. The Ganesh festival is scheduled from August 22.
