Amid protests by freedom fighters and BJP for the arrival of Portuguese tallest training ship, NRP Sagres, fishermen from Khariwado-Vasco are all set to give ceremonial brass band send-off to the ship on Tuesday morning.
“The trawler owners have decided that as a mark of respect for great friendship tie between India and Portuguese, fishermen from Khariwado will give ceremonial brass band send-off to the ship,” said Goa Boat Owners Association President Simon Pereira.
Inviting the media for the event, Periera said the traditional brass band send-off is to further strength the Indo-Portugal friendship.
Meanwhile, since Sunday, the visitors, who had come to see the ship, were denied entry by security personnel at Mormugao Port.
Godfrey Gonsalves, who had come along with his friends from Borda-Margao, to see the ship on Monday morning was also denied entry by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
“We had carried our photo identity cards and other relevant documents to produce at the gate to gain entry, but despite that we were denied access,” complained Gonsalves.
While the shipping agent, Machado & Sons, Representative Milton Colaco said the entry to general public was stopped since Sunday due to security reasons.
“Initially for two days, people were allowed to visit the ship. The ship will sail on Tuesday at about 10 am to Egypt,” he said.
