Chain snatchers nabbed in 24 hrs

CURCHOREM: Curchorem, Sanguem and Quepem police in a joint operation succeeded nabbing two thieves on Tuesday, within 24 hours of receiving a complaint.

According to Curchorem PSI Arjun Sangodkar, the two thieves who snatched a gold chain and mangalsutra at Kakoda and Sanguem were identified by a woman from Tony Nagar, Sanvordem when police showed her CCTV recordings.
It is learnt that two chain snatchers Ashvapak Shaikh (19) and Hussain Shaikh (18) from New Vaddem, Vasco came on a two-wheeler at Tony Nagar and inquired about some unknown person. The moment the woman turned to reply, the pillion rider unsuccessfully tried to snatch a chain from the neck of the woman who later disappeared from the scene.
Later, the woman informed about the incident to local panch Deepak Sawant, who brought her to police station and identified the robbers on CCTV recordings.
 According to Sawant, later he was travelling to Sanguem for some work where he saw the two persons on a two-wheeler who were identified by the women. “I immediately informed the police and asked them to send their personnel to catch the robbers, while I kept following them and after reaching at Tanki-Xeldem, police from Curchorem, Sanguem and Quepem reached the site and succeeded in nabbing them,” informed Sawant.
