MARGAO: Saturday saw the PWD chief chemist checking the quality of water in the affected areas of Margao city, but local PWD officials said that water will be released to the households only after receiving a green signal from the office of Principal Chief Engineer.
The lady chief Chemist visited many parts of the city with local PWD officials Vijai Kudchadkar and Painginkar in tow to collect water samples affected by sewage contamination. But, the local PWD officials are in the dark over the release of water supply to the households and are awaiting the green signal from Panjim to release the supply.
“The chief chemist has collected water samples and taken them for laboratory testing. But, we have not yet received any instruction either from the chief chemist nor senior PWD officials to release water supply,” a PWD official told Herald saying that they are totally in the dark whether the water is fit for drinking or not.
Replying to a question, he said that unless the office of the Principal Chief Engineer gives the nod in writing, the affected households will not be told to start consuming the water.
Meanwhile, local PWD officials are planning to test the line with the sub chemist employed with Gogol office.
It’s now a week since residents of Malbhat, parts of Pajifond, Gandhi market area had to go without water after sewage and sludge found its way in the underground water pipeline which was damaged during road excavation.
