PANJIM: After a five month long delay, the Goa government finally constituted a new committee of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Tuesday and appointed Dr Sushma Kirtani as the chairperson.
The seven-member board includes Sujata Bhatkar, Dr Mandava Prasad, Prachi Khandeparkar, Cyanna Hoogewerf, Audrey Pinto and Carmelina Franco.
The order signed by the Director of the Department of Women and Child Deepali Naik, says the tenure of the commission will be three years.
The commission was almost defunct after former Chairperson Sameera Kazi’s three-year-old tenure ended in the second week of September 2014.
The delay in the appointment of the new committee piled up hundreds of cases before the commission without redressal. Sources said the new panel has prioritized completion of inquiries into pending cases even as it will also accept fresh complaints for taking action.
