Of late we have witnessed a trend in Goa of children standing through or sitting on sunroof of cars risking life and limb while daddy/mommy dearest is driving the vehicle.
Many horrific accidents have taken place across India. Recently, a child was decapitated in Uttar Pradesh by a glass sheathed kite string which cut through her neck when she had her head poking out of the car’s sunroof.
Maybe the parents think they are being very indulgent towards their progeny or the kids feel macho putting their torsos out of the vehicle’s sunroof but it is a most dangerous practice and proscribed in advanced countries.
Such errant habits should be brought under the purview of the new Motor Vehicles Act and banned totally. We can cut back on the fatality statistics this way. Parents should also be sensitised to the fact that they are putting their ward’s life in peril by encouraging such shenanigans.
