Better late than never

In the 'Citizen Herald' page of the Monday, July 4 edition of Herald, I had reported about the flooding of the roads in Vasco city which caused inconvenience to road users and pedestrians.

The authorities have since then commenced the work of clearing the drains. This pre-monsoon work should have been carried out well before the onset of monsoon. Nevertheless it is being carried out when the monsoon is in flow and we are already in the third week of the month of July. As they say ‘better late than never’. But then the mud and slush that is being removed from the drains need to be disposed off in quick time. Otherwise the heavy rains will once again carry the mud into the drains and onto the roads leading to slippery conditions.
In future the civic authorities would do well to complete the pre-monsoon work at least in the month of April, well before the pre-monsoon showers, in order to prevent inconvenience to the general public.
