Your paper has been publishing various articles on stray dog menace in different areas of Goa including Goa GPRS giving animals a new lease on life. This, however, is a touch of the iceberg not the tip. Honestly the municipality of Mapusa and other towns need to do a thorough study of the strays.
I am no authority on the subject but I do know that in today’s day and age, there are more modern methods of catching strays than a butterfly net. Last week, it was ridiculous to see grown men running behind a small puppy with a net. There are 14 strays outside our building and they didn’t catch a single one. The strays wander up our stairs leaving faeces and urine for us to clean up. Down the road are a family which houses 25 dogs and 38 cats.
Perhaps they cannot be termed strays but when they are all let out to relieve themselves on the street what do they become? Anywhere in Mapusa, the old and sick, babies and working people cannot get a good night’s sleep for the cacophony of dogs at night. This is a serious invasion of our sanity and sanitation and we worry about non-Goans taking over Goa!
