There’s only one word to describe the condition and service offered at Fatorda Post Office – “pathetic.” However, let me add, this does not refer to the staff working there.
Under the prevailing circumstances they seem to work quite hard, although at times they tend to lose their cool. But that is understandable, given the kind of environment and facing constant glitches either with internet servers, software, hardware or machines not working, on account of which they have to face the ire of customers.
Furthermore, the post office is located in a dingy and somewhat spooky place, with no proper lighting nor ventilation.
The post office caters to hundreds of Fatorda residents, who have to wait patiently in queue for long time in hot and humid conditions, as there’s not even a fan, before they reach the counter manned by just one female staff, who handles all types of work both postal and financial services.
In the past people have raised their concerns, through Herald, demanding a better place and additional staff to mitigate the needs of the customers, but the requests and demands seem to have fallen on deaf ears and no one is bothered.
As the postal services come under the Central government, most post offices in Goa have been ignored and neglected and working conditions continue to be dismal and remain as they were 10 years ago.
The Goa government too is not doing anything to improve the functioning of postal services nor provide adequate premises, thereby leaving the customers to fend for themselves, with no hope for any achche din.
Will the concerned authorities take necessary steps to remedy the appalling conditions of Fatorda Post Office?
