There are still a few weeks before the onset of South West monsoon in Goa. However, the State has been experiencing intermittent spells of heavy showers and thunderstorms.
These short spells of rains followed by sunshine is the most appropriate condition for mosquito breeding, especially those which spread Dengue fever. Hence, fogging should be carried out regularly much before the onset of monsoon.
The Metrological Department has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. This will obviously be followed by pre-monsoon showers in the month of May. It would be prudent for the civic bodies and panchayats to include fogging as part of pre-monsoon work.
