Is Benaulim p’yat ghar garbage dumping site?

There was a tonne of garbage right in front of the Benaulim panchayat ghar which after spirited opposition of the village denizens was shifted to the rear of the building but is still visible from the main road.

The dump is a happy hunting ground for rodents, pests, dogs and cattle making the lives of the residents miserable. This problem has been a recurring one, at one point of time a garbage bailing machine was installed to compress the trash volume and make it easier to dispose off, but within a few months it became non functional and was removed.

Anyone visiting the panchayat ghar, the post office or milk retail centre there is treated to the stench of the trash mountain. It also leaves a bad impression upon tourists who throng the village, many choose to move out which harms the local economy too.

Why can’t the waste be removed once and for all, or relocated? How many Sonsoddos does the government want to create?
