PONDA: With repeated cases of accidents to stray cattle cropping up on the roads, Kavlem locals demanded with the government to set up a goshala (cattleshed) for stray cattle.

The stray cattle population has been increasing and they take shelter on main roads. Several cases of accidents due to stray cattle have been reported in the recent times. In other situation, cases of injuries to stray cattle have also increased.
Animal lover Sanket Narvekar said, “Recently I received a call that a young calf was injured after it was hit by a loaded goods rickshaw at Donkhamb-Kapileshwarim turn. The calf’s leg was broken after it was hit by loaded goods rickshaw.
He said, “The government should look into stray cattle problem on humanitarian ground and provide shelter to them and take their care with help of local panchayats.” He said that recently, he received six calls of stray cattle accidents.
Earlier, few months back, a bike rider dashed one cow on the same road at Paunwada, wherein the bike rider was injured and cow was killed on spot.
He warned that the all road users should drive carefully so that it will not only save their own life but also that of stray cattle, which are seen squatting on the roads several times.
