In response to the public demand for a pavement leading from the church circle in Vasco to Goa Shipyard, pavers have been installed on one side of the road. However, it is observed that the pavement is at the same level as the road. There is also no barrier or a gap to separate the road from the pavement. The so called pavement is now being used as a parking lot for parking of both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
The very purpose of having a pavement for the pedestrians to walk on is defeated as they are forced to walk on the road which could prove dangerous. There is also the danger of vehicles moving close to the pavement or even on the pavement while overtaking which could prove risky for the pedestrians.
It seems necessary to have the pavement at a slightly higher level than the road or alternatively either have a low one-brick barrier or a gap in order to demarcate the road from the pavement.
