PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s comments regarding the recent gang-rape case in Benaulim received flak across social media and in the Assembly as well.
On Wednesday, during a debate in the House, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “When 14-year-olds stay on the beach the whole night, the parents needs to introspect. Just because children don’t listen, we cannot put the responsibility on the government and police.”
On Thursday, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte criticised the CM for blaming the parents and questioned who is supposed to keep the beaches and the people safe if it’s not the State government.
He also added that Goa, once famous for being a safe State, is being lost.
He also mocked the Chief Minister for trying to defend the State’s instead of responding to what has happened.
On Wednesday night, the Chief Minister had also tried to play down the concerns expressed by the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on the recent Usgao gang-rape case.
Sawant interrupted Kamat and said the incident cannot be termed as rape and spoke about how the victim had begun a friendship with one of the accused on social media that had lasted for months together.
