BICHOLIM: After Surla village in Bicholim was declared Goa’s first biodiversity heritage site, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant along with Surla Village Panchayat members paid visit to the biodiversity site and inspected conservation of natural flora and fauna in the area named as “Purva Tali”.
On the occasion, the panchayat body brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that the forest area of 7,300 sqmts has been of religious and cultural importance for many years and it has to be acknowledged to the new generation while retaining its heritage.
After patient listening, the Chief Minister lauded the panchayat body and the locals for retaining natural heritage in such a good manner.
He also said after attaining the status of world heritage site this place has increased the importance and hence the responsibility of people is heightened.
He also assured to take care of this site on behalf of the State government. Sarpanch Krishna Baikar and panchas Surekha Ghadi, Vinita Ghadi, Chandrakant Ghadi and villagers were present.
