PONDA: In yet another road accident, a bike rider was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck after a head-on collision on an internal road near the government Primary School at Usgao around 1.30 pm on Wednesday. This marks the third fatal accident in Usgao and the second incident involving a death under a truck’s wheels, with another bike rider recently dying due to cattle on the road.
The deceased, identified as Subbelal Jak Singh, 30, originally from Madhya Pradesh, and currently residing in Usgao, was killed after the truck ran him over at Kasayale, Usgao. He was proceeding towards Usgao when the truck, travelling in the opposite direction, struck him.

Following the accident, Ponda Police rushed to the spot and conducted a panchanama. However, controversy arose over the panchanama, with locals alleging improper marking of the body at the scene and claiming it was done hurriedly. The investigating officer, a PSI, stated that they conducted the panchanama as per BNS provisions, with proper markings and recorded a video along with the body and markings. Dharbandora sarpanch Balaji Gawas demanded safety measures at the sharp turn where the accident occurred. The deceased, a coconut plucker by profession, was married to a Goan. He is survived by his wife and two children. Locals expressed sorrow over the incident.
In another accident late Wednesday evening at the Dhavalim Bypass, the driver of a speeding car lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the roadside compound wall of the Marate family near Dhavalim Junction. The car driver sustained injuries, and the compound wall was damaged.
Ponda Police report 17 fatal accidents so far this year
Ponda Police have recorded around 17 fatal accident cases from January to date this year, including self- accidents. Accidents continue to occur on both highways and internal roads in Ponda.
