Association president Cristo Fernandes told the media that the operators have ensured that every customer is allotted a life jacket, adding that wearing of this jacket has been made mandatory for the crew as well as for the customers. “The crew members are highly professional persons and they are trained to save life and also react in case of emergencies. No untrained operator is allowed to operate any boat and venture into the sea for water sports activity,” Cristo said.
On the demarcation of zones at the beach, Cristo said the Association in alliance with the lifeguards employed by the government has demarcated the bathing and swimming zones for those visiting the Colva beach. “For the safety of the visitors to the beach, we have erected floaters and flags to identify these zones. Our boats do not venture into these zones,” he said.
Incidentally, Cristo said the Association ensures that only licensed boats are allowed to venture into the sea. “All our boats are routinely inspected and license is periodically obtained from the Captain of Ports and other competent authorities. Overloading of the boats is strictly prohibited,” he said.
