Loutolim and Borim villagers are escalating their resistance against the proposed acquisition of fertile khazan lands in Loutolim for the construction of the new Borim Bridge. Despite submitting 200 objections and receiving no response from authorities, the community marched to the PWD Land Acquisition office on Tuesday, demanding answers. Expressing frustration, locals urge the abandonment of the acquisition plan and advocate for a comprehensive study to reveal the ground reality. They highlight the irony of the government taking away farmland after promoting agriculture schemes and incentives.
In a significant move, villagers have written to Union Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, vehemently opposing the acquisition. The project entails building a new high-level Borim Bridge, including approaches across the Zuari River and a bypass road. The persistent silence from authorities has heightened concerns, strengthening the community’s resolve to protect their khazan lands and push for transparency in the decision-making process.
