Confusion over price of ‘speed governors’

Equipment sold at different prices, sometimes, within the same town

MARGAO: Heavy vehicle owners are in the grip of confusion over ‘speed governors’ vis-à-vis market price.
The speed governors are being sold at all different prizes in different towns and cities in the State. The Speed Governors are being sold at Rs 8000, a unit, at one place and the same is being sold at Rs 11,000 at another place in the same town.
In Mapusa, the device is sold at Rs 6000. The owners of the heavy vehicles are in a very confused state of mind due to the variation in prices and have sensed irregularity in the same.
The Central Government had earlier issued a gazette notification making the use of speed governors for transport and heavy vehicles mandatory. The execution of the same has been dubious and wrong from the beginning. The RTO has not certified retailers or distributors for the same which has sent the entire process in a confused state.
The passing of several mining transport trucks has got over in February and the owners are now running helter-skelter for the right information on Speed Governors. There has been no advisory or a standard set on the pricing or the brand of the Speed Governor advised for vehicles. Several people have bought the speed governors from Belgaum at the rate of Rs 3 thousand.
Sudesh Naik, a truck owner from Sanvordem said, “If the government is serious about the Speed Governor, then they have to make it common for all. Many have already got their vehicles passed earlier to the mandated date and they are driving rash now.”
The government has been urged to clarify all the factors in the case and streamline the process soon.
