Congress-GF candidates take pledge to stay united, loyal & not to defect, once elected

Panjim: Unity, loyalty and defection are the main concerns that every party and its leaders have. After Aam Aadmi Party candidates, now it is the candidates of Congress & alliance partner Goa Forward who signed an affidavit, not to defect once elected. They pledged that they will always remain united & loyal to their party, in the presence of the Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday.

The affidavit was signed also by the candidates of Goa Forward Party, who have entered into a pre-poll alliance with Congress in the state. Gandhi is on a day long visit to the coastal state where he would be addressing a public meeting later during the day.

AICC General Secretary K Venugopal, the party’s Goa Election Incharge P Chidambaram, State Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar were also present for the event.

Led by leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who is among the only two MLAs left with the party, the candidates read out the affidavit which swears that they will not resign from the party or switch to any other political outfit, during next five years.

The Congress party which had won 17 seats in 2017 Assembly election was reduced to just two MLAs after several of its MLAs resigned or en-mass joined other political parties including BJP and Trinamool Congress Party.

Gandhi arrived in the poll bound state on Friday morning after which he participated in the door-to-door campaign at Mormugao Assembly constituency.
