The Congress president and chairman of the Congress election committee Luizinho Faleiro who arrived from Delhi this evening after meeting party president Sonia Gandhi, where she was briefed about party’s first brain storming session ‘Chintan Shibir’ held last week.
“We are most likely to announce our candidate on Friday,” Faleiro told Herald. He said that two names – Furtado and party secretary Ezilda Sapeco – were shortlisted by the Pradesh election committee and sent to the high command.
Congress party had received four names of aspirants staking claim for Panjim ticket that included Furtado, Sapeco, Congress general secretary Arthur Sequeira and former member of Janata Dal (United) Dominic Savio Fernandes.
The Congress candidate was defeated in March 2012 for Panjim assembly election by nearly 6000 votes against BJP’s Manohar Parrikar.
BJP had on Friday announced Siddharth Kunkolienkar as their candidate from Panjim, for the by-elections which will probably be held in February next year.
