MOPA: While the delegation of affected farmers along with their legal advisors were called for a meeting in the North Collector’s office at Panjim, the contractor on the other hand pressed into service more machinery to clear the land for the Mopa link road in the presence of hundreds of police personnel at site to maintain law and order situation.
The contractor arrived at the site at 7 am and commenced the work. While the work was underway, the police deployed at the site did not allow the villagers to enter their own land.
“Our generations have lived on the earnings that we got from this plantation. We are not going to leave this village and won’t allow the government to take away the land,” warned Niyati Tulaskar, an affected farmer.
