The contractor executing work on the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge has been restrained by the High court from further use of industrial slag for the construction of the approach road.
The High court has further issued directions to place on record the report submitted by the Consultant Ms Madhav Kamat & Associates along with the reply.
The high court directions came following a writ petition filed by Green Goa Foundation, which stated that the contractor has dumped industrial slag for the construction of the approach road to the bridge.
At the last date of hearing, the Counsel for Green Goa Foundation invited the attention to the communication dated July 27 by the PWD stating that the industrial slag was used by the contractor to level and line the unpaved approach road.
In the communication, the PWD had stated that care has been taken of the apprehension of soil and water pollution by seeking the opinion of a consultant.
Green Goa Foundation had approached the high court stating that the PWD had failed to stop the contractor from using the industrial slag for the landfill.
In its petition, the GGF had submitted before the high court that the industrial slag could pollute the paddy fields and water bodies in the vicinity and has prayed to the court to direct the contractor to remove the slag from the site.
The petition will come up for hearing in the high court on August 30.
