CALANGUTE: The managing committee of Calangute Comunidade, which recently took oath of office, is reportedly unable to perform duties due to missing files, registers and important documents and has directed Calangute Police to file FIR against ex-committee members.
According to reports, the managing committee took oath of office after a long delay of nine months following a communiqué from Administrator of Comunidades of North Zone Irene Sequeira; however, it is reportedly unable to perform its duties due to missing files, etc, from the office situated in the premises of St Alex Church, Calangute.
In a submission to Calangute PI Nilesh Rane, the managing committee headed by President Jose Agostinho Proenca, Attorney Suhas Naik and Comunidade Registrar Ramesh Taluskar have sought immediate intervention of the police to trace the missing files, documents, registers and other related documents from the possession of ex-committee members.
It may be recalled that the unanimous election of the new managing committee of Calangute Comunidade on January 13, 2013, was challenged by Joseph Sequeira and the matter was dragged into the Administrative Tribunal. The newly elected managing committee challenged and was finally administered the oath by the Administrator of Comunidades for North Zone and directed President Proenca to take charge of office.
Proenca had to forcibly take possession of the office of Calangute Comunidade with police protection, as the ex-team of office bearers reportedly refused to hand over the keys and other belongings to the newly elected body. The ex-team also reportedly refused to hand over important documents, files and registers belonging to the Calangute Comunidade.
When contacted, PI Rane said the possibility of amicable solution is being worked out or else due process of law will be followed.
Ex-president Agnel Lobo and ex-attorney Anthony D’Souza said they were not informed nor directed to hand over the charge of office by the Administrator of Comunidades of North Goa, otherwise they would have given the charge to the new committee.
“I only received the intimation of oath of loyalty to the members of the Board from the Administrator of Comunidades of North Goa, but no directives were issued to us,” said Lobo.
