Could not say no to Madam: Luizinho

New GPCC chief says Sonia Gandhi’s directions had to be obeyed, asks for support

MARGAO:  Soon after his appointment as president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Luizinho Faleiro invited all like-minded people to come together for the greater glory of Goa and for the betterment of the state.
The Faleiro camp said that he was called to Delhi on Monday evening and had a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday morning.
“When Madam Sonia Gandhi asked me to take over the party reigns, I could not say no. I accepted the party decision as a loyal solider of the party”, he said. His close aides said that Faleiro had said no to the offer at least on four different occasions.
Mr  Faleiro has sought the support, cooperation and blessings of the people as he returned back on the GPCC saddle after nearly a decade. “I feel for my state. For me to leave Goa and join the national politics was an emotional and painful decision. And, by the grace of God, I had a successful stint in the assignment given to me by my party leadership”, he said.
The new GPCC president laid stress on building a party cadre and developing a grass root leadership. “We have to bring in new and young blood in the party. We have to create a conducive atmosphere for the youth to come into the party and take the leadership. Goans have proved themselves all across the world. Their potential has to be tapped for the betterment of the state”, Faleiro said.
