The persons who were arrested in connection with the slaughter of 87 cattle in the open space at Baina beach on Thursday morning were let out on bail.
The Anjuman Khairul Islam (AKI) furnished a personal surety bound of Rs 5000 each for the arrested accused, said Vasco police.
AKI representative Adam Zumma said they would petition Chief Minister Digamber Kamat and Chief Secretary Sanjiv Shrivastav to enable them to continue the annual practice of ‘Kurbani’.
“We have been conducting the ‘Kurbani’ of cattle near the Baina seashore with the permission of the Mormugao Municipal Council and this has been going on for many years,” said Zumma.
“The slaughter of cattle was being carried out after taking all precautionary measures to ensure hygiene in the makeshift area,” he said.
Upset with the authorities for stopping the slaughter of cattle, the AKI has said that the Goa Meat Complex is unhygienic and it would be practically impossible to conduct ‘Kurbani’ at the Goa Meat Complex in Usgao-Ponda.
