MARGAO: Salcete Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar has instructed the health centres in Salcete to conduct an outreach programme targeting panchayats and municipalities to create awareness on vector borne diseases.
At a meeting held on Thursday at the chambers of the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate at the Matanhy Saldanha complex, the collector reviewed the work done with respect to prevention and cure of vector borne diseases in the taluka for the year.
At the meeting that was attended by medical officers and staff of health centres around Salcete, an update on a total of 148 dengue and malaria cases were discussed. Panchwadkar stated that most of the cases had come from Sao Jose de Areal and Moti Dongor and the two areas had been demarcated as sensitive areas and would be on the priority list.
Panchwadkar added that in Sao Jose de Areal the government had carried out several inspections of the scrap yards and saw that the area had been cleaned and notices had been issued to violators.
With regard to prevention of vector borne diseases, it was decided to hold awareness programmes at panchayat level even at gram sabhas and at the municipality level to educate the public on the steps need to be taken to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and other measures to eradicate all sources of the diseases.
