MARGAO: The Crime branch investigating into the January 4 Canacona building collapse case has moved the Chief Secretary and the Director of Municipal Administration for sanction to prosecute the government officials, including engineers, arrested in the case, even as the two builders Jugdeep Sehgal and Pradip Singh Birring are still at large.
The investigating agency has asked for sanction from the Chief Secretary B Vijayan to prosecute the former Canacona Chief Officers arrested in the case. The CB has also moved the Director of Municipal Administration for sanction before filing the charge sheet against all the accused in the case.
Crime Branch, SP Santosh Kashyap told Herald that the government sanction is required for the investigating agency to proceed with the charge sheet as far as the accused government officials are concerned. “The Charge sheet will be filed in the court once the investigating agency receives the sanction”, he said.
On the whereabouts of the two absconding builders, Kashyap said the Crime branch has already issued red corner notice as well as a look out notice to trace the two absconding builders. “We have complied with the procedure established by law to trace the absconding builders. Efforts are on to track down the two builders”, he said.
Kashyap, however, said the Crime branch has moved for attachment of the properties of the two builders. “As per rough estimates, the value of the properties owned by the two builders is estimated around Rs 30 crore”, he said, while saying that investigations into the case are on.
