MARGAO: In a new twist to the controversial Rs 1.60 crore Cuncolim Health Club project mooted under the golden jubilee signature scheme, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has taken over the file and other documents concerning the project for investigations.

Herald understands that the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer Shivaji Desai has dispatched the file to the Anti-Corruption Bureau after being asked by the investigating agency.

It’s now one year since work on the project was stopped by the flying squad for violation of the election code of conduct following a complaint that the work was being carried out sans the mandatory work order. The project had hit a row after the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer lodged an FIR against unknown persons for carrying out work on the project.

Since the last one year, the project has been lying in limbo with the Cuncolim police still continuing with the investigations to ascertain the “unknown persons” involved in carrying out the construction activity without the mandatory work order.

Chief Officer Shivaji Desai told Herald that the Civic body had recently sent a reminder to the Cuncolim police seeking status of the investigations.
