While the work of first phase is in progress, which is to build residential quarters for doctors and employees, the existing wards and facilities have been neglected by the authorities, and the visiting committee has failed to keep a watch on the same.
Sanjay Dessai, a local who visited the centre for the treatment of his son recently, found the condition of the hospital very poor and unhygienic as there were no proper bed sheets, and dirty pillows and mattresses.
“Since the doctor on duty had gone for dinner when I brought my son for treatment, I took a round inside the hospital and was surprised and shocked to see the hospital in a totally unhygienic condition as there were no proper bed sheets, pillows and mattresses in the wards,” said Dessai.
He further informed that he had visited the hospital again the next morning, clicked photos and uploaded them on Facebook. He had also immediately informed local MLA Nilesh Cabral and requested him to visit the hospital to take stock of the situation.
According to Dessai, when Cabral visited the hospital, he took the MLA around the hospital and brought to his notice the unhygienic condition of hospital, including the dirty, dilapidated washrooms and toilets for patient and visitors.
Dessai also showed him the inoperative, rusted vehicles kept in the vicinity, which were unnecessarily occupying parking space.
When contacted, Cabral said that the cleanliness was being maintained at the hospital. He continued, “Certain things like new bed sheets, pillows and mattresses are not brought as the new building is under construction.”
He assured to do whatever could be done on priority and admitted that sometimes the toilets get choked due to the absence of a proper septic tank. He added that he would put everything in place, including doctors, once the new building was completed.
