PANJIM: Stating that defection of elected representatives from one party to another party is wrong, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday admitted that five to six party MLAs from Punjab had switched their loyalties and joined the Congress.
When asked how many AAP MLAs in Punjab defected and joined ruling Congress, Kejriwal said, “Five-six party MLAs defected. Yeh galat hai (defection is wrong),” he said adding that elections become a farce when MLAs defect to another party to form the government.
Referring to the defection of 10 Congress MLAs to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in July 2019, Kejriwal said, “This is cheating. This is not right. When people ask MLAs who defected from their parties to the BJP about why they left, they say they wanted to go to the ruling party so they could streamline work in public interest. I want to ask the people of Goa, did they manage to fulfil any work in public interest? Is it public interest or personal interest? Conduct a survey. Whoever defected to BJP, do people of their constituency say that these MLAs have done anything for the public?” questioned Kejriwal.
“Our party has been working from the ground level, visiting each household, each village. People say they either defected for money or power. Both these parties broke the trust of the people of Goa. Since we have started our campaign, thousands have registered pledging that they will not vote for the two parties,” Kejriwal added.
Kejriwal evaded a question regarding AAP stand on coal transportation and making Goa a coal hub.
