Designer Mantry died of ‘natural causes’: cops

PANJIM: Goa police have confirmed that Bollywood designer Isha Mantry died due to ‘natural causes’ at the EDM festival at Candolim, in December, last year.

In a reply to the petition filed by Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar in January, Superintendent of Police (Anti-Narcotics Cell) Kartik Kashyap said that Mantry died due to natural causes. He said this was revealed during investigations carried out by Calangute police.
In a petition to ANC, Kawthankar had demanded the arrest of those responsible for the security lapse at the event, which eventually led to the death of 27-year-old Mantry, who was a costume designer for Priyanka Chopra-starrer ‘Mary Kom’. The Congress alleged that a drug overdose had led to her death and had demanded an investigation.
Kashyap informed the complainant that the allegation regarding Mantry’s death being un-natural or due to drug overdose is still under investigation.
The SP said that ANC deputes staffers every year at the venues of Supersonic and Sunburn electronic dance and music festivals to prevent sale and abuse of drugs and takes action as per law against those found indulging in such illegal activities.
Mantry was among thousands of revellers at the EDM festival held on a Goa beach, where she fainted. She was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
