Dewatering of mining pit at Pissurlem started since 2 to 3 pits risky: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the process of dewatering of mining pit at Pissurlem has commenced since two to three pits were risky.

Sawant said that of the several mining pits across the State, two to three of them were risky and need to be dewatered on priority.

The Chief Minister said that he has already given instructions to Deputy Collectors and that they have started inspection of these mining pits. The engineers of Water Resources Department (WRD) are also working with them. 

The Chief Minister said that a pump has already been deployed on mining pit at Pissurlem to dewater it while dewatering will commence at the Bicholim mining pit by Monday.

On Friday, North Goa Collector Mamu Hage along with Deputy Collector Deepak Vaigankar, Bicholim Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, WRD Engineer Naresh Pokle and others inspected some of the mining pits particularly those likely to pose risk during monsoon in Bicholim Taluka. The mining companies have also been asked to take safety measures and to start pumping stations.
