PANJIM: With the onset of four-month monsoon season, the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) decided to stop transportation of minerals by road in the interest of public safety.
In a notification issued on Tuesday, DMG Director Vivek PH, has however allowed transportation of minerals used for captive or domestic consumption, until further orders.

“Transportation of minerals by road during the monsoon season may jeopardise the safety of citizens using the road network in the vicinity of the mining leases or transportation route of such minerals,” the director said.
“Now therefore, in the interest of public safety, the transportation of minerals by road is hereby stopped untill further orders, except for captive/domestic consumption or on specific order of the Collector, due to the positioning of the jetty vis-à-vis as mining lease,” he added.
The notification is issued as per Goa Mineral Policy 2013. The transportation of auctioned iron ore as well as minor minerals was currently ongoing.
