PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Dr Wilfred de Souza has written to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh urging him to take up the matter of construction of taxiways, which is the only pending upgradation of Dabolim.
“What has not been done is the building of the two taxiways. If this is done Phase I would have been completed and work can start on Phase II and Goa can boast of a truly international airport which will cater to all our needs,” Dr Willy said.
He was referring to the decisions taken at a meeting under the Union Minister for Civil Aviation which discussed execution of several works, including the two taxiways parallel to the runway.
The former CM wrote the letter on May 21.
The parallel taxiways will allow bumper to bumper taxiing of aircrafts and take-offs, allowing five times the current number of landings and takeoffs that Dabolim currently handles.
