On the morning of April 6, Marylin along with her husband Sheldon fell off their motorcycle that hit a huge crater on Mahim Causeway. Though Sheldon suffered minor injuries, Marylin was admitted for polytrauma with severe traumatic brain injury.
Talking about the episode, Sheldon’s brother Gabriel Pereira said, “There were two blood clots in her brain that were removed during the first surgery, but now she has to undergo a second surgery for the skull.”
Due to lack of funds it was difficult to arrange Rs 20 lakh for the surgery, but with help from the BNI chapter in Goa as well as from well wishers, the first surgery was a success. Marylin is recovering from coma, but she still finds it difficult to move around.
With the second surgery scheduled for June, Pereira said she’s been recovering well and is in high spirits despite the traumatic events.
Marylin, a homemaker along with her husband Sheldon, an events organiser were planning on moving to their hometown in Duler having registered their daughters in schools in Mapusa. But with the accident, the couple has planned to stay in Mumbai for another year. They have also made an appeal for financial assistance for Marylin’s future treatment.
