VASCO: Local authorities in Vasco have proposed an ambitious plan to elevate Baina Beach into a premier tourist destination, aiming to secure a spot on the global tourism map.
Once infamous as a ‘red-light district’, or a hub for commercial sex workers, the Baina beach stretch has had its share of problems with Coastal Regulation Zone violations and illegal migrant workers’ settlements along the coast.

Inaugurating the first shack of the season at Baina on Thursday, local MLA Sankalp Amonkar outlined several proposals designed to enhance facilities and amenities, making Baina a sought-after destination.
Addressing reporters, Amonkar emphasised the ‘historical neglect’ of Baina Beach, stating, “It was only after the red light area was removed by former CM Manohar Parrikar that there seemed to be some scope for improvement. I hope to promote Baina beach as a tourism hotspot- we have introduced water sports on the stretch and are receiving heavy footfalls.”
“Additionally, shacks are being installed at the beach to attract more tourists and generate employment for the locals here. We also have the best flyover in Goa which offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea,” he added.
One of the key developments is the soon-to-be operational police outpost at Baina Beach, aimed at ensuring safety and security for tourists.
Amonkar revealed discussions with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte to enlist the support of the Tourism Department in beautifying the entire stretch of the beach.
Highlighting future plans, Amonkar mentioned the construction of a viewing gallery at Baina Beach, contingent on the completion of the Four-lane Port Connectivity Flyover.
