PANJIM: The FC Goa team bus was caught in a traffic jam on the NH 17 from
Pilar across Zuari bride enroute to the stadium on Sunday evening.
The Goa Police had blocked the traffic on both ends of the Zuari bride with vehicles piled along side the streets allowing a VIP passage for the FC Goa bus to pass along. But this plan of action fell flat as the FC Goa bus along with their fans following them had left the hotel 15 minutes behind schedule.
Two ambulances were also caught in the jam while the Goa police desperately worked to ease the traffic. The FC Goa bus left the Panjim hotel at 4:05 and made their first halt at Bambolim Cross at 4:15. Thereafter after descending the Bambolim slope the traffic began to grow. The FC Goa bus took 40 minutes to cross from Bambolim slope across the Zuari bridge with the police escorts cars making desperate attempts to make way for the bus.
But fans lined up across the streets were excited as the bus rolled up close. They jumped on their car roof tops to get a glimpse of their football stars. There was a huge train of FC Goa fans riding behind the bus cheering the team all along the route.
Fans at Aggassim had already begun celebrating and lit crackers, waved and cheered Forca Goa! as the bus driver Avilino D’souza squeezed past the tight traffic.
There were two wedding cars also caught in the traffic along with other passenger vehicles heading to and fro from the airport.
Some complained while other took time off to capture the FC Goa team with their mobile cameras.
The situation was more like pre celebration with the people stuck in the traffic not minding the snarl and cheered the team along the route.
