MARGAO: Transportation of bauxite ore from Naqueri was stopped on Tuesday morning at the Eastern bypass at Margao by agitated truck owners from South Goa as they protested against the discriminatory tactics adopted by the truck owners from Naqueri village.
Agitated truck owners from South Goa stopped trucks laden with bauxite ore at the Eastern bypass to protest against the discrimination meted out to them by the Naqueri truck owners. They pointed out that the Naqueri truck owners are violating the condition of queue system with impunity in violation of the collector’s order.
President of Salcete Truck Owners Association Franky Gomes said the truck owners have stopped the ore laden trucks since the Naqueri truck owners are refusing to comply with the Collector’s order for a system at the mines. “We had no option than to stop the transportation. After the transportation was stopped, truckers from Naqueri have now called for discussions. We will insist for first come, first serve basis to resolved the imbroglio or else truckers from South Goa will continue the blockade of the mining trucks”, Franky warned.
Another truck owner Firoz Sheik said they will not allow the transportation of ore unless the Naqueri truckers follow the queue system. “We are only demanding natural justice and fair play. All truck owners should follow the Collector’s order for a queue system in the transportation of bauxite ore from Naqueri”, he demanded.
Margao police rushed to the Eastern bypass to avert any clash between the two groups. Representatives of the two groups are now expected to meet in the city here to iron out their differences.
