Right from the chief officer down to the sanitary inspector, none of the MMC officials could be bothered, even as the MMC is custodian of civic well being.
The district authorities too seem to have turned a blind eye to the nuisance and mess all along the Ring Road. The messy situation was brought to the notice of the Additional district Collector, South Damodar Morajkar, who did his job of despatching a letter to the MMC chief officer to clear the road of the filth, garbage and the debris.
It’s not known whether the newly-posted Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Naveen S L, IAS, has visited the site dubbed by many as another “sonsodo in the making,” though the officer has been visiting the wards for a first hand assessment of ground realities after assuming office two weeks ago.
Herald inquiries have revealed that while Additional Collector, Morajkar had passed the buck onto the municipal officials, calling on them to clear the site, the civic officials have been dragging their feet and claim that the cleaning operation would require the services of heavy earth moving machinery.
An on site assessment along the ring road reveals that the waste dumping problem is not restricted at the turn near the Rawanfond bridge, but has spread all along the route – right from the Fire Force station to the Power House junction.
Margao Municipal Ward Councillor Damu Shirodkar admitted that no sooner the debris and waste was pushed inside, trucks load of fresh debris was dumped all along the road, the very next day.
Incidentally, while the district Collectorate and the Margao Municipality had jointly launched the Swachh Bharat Nitol Goem campaign from Gandhi Jayanti Day,2014, the Ring Road running along the town’s outskirts seems to have not yet attracted the attention of neither the civic babus nor the district bureaucrats.
