PANJIM: Agassaim Police have registered an FIR against pop star and Padma Shri awardee Remo Fernandes for allegedly abusing the minor girl who was knocked down by his car. According to the complaint, Remo went to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) where the girl is undergoing treatment on December 3, 2015 and abused her.
Remo has been booked under Section 8 of the Goa Children Act, which prevents any kind of abuse on minors, read with section 2(m) of the same act.
Police have already recorded the girl’s statement and have verified through CCTV footage at the GMC that Remo had visited the hospital and gone to Ward 105 where the girl is undergoing treatment.
In her statement to Agassaim police, the girl has stated that Remo had said, “Why are you alive? You should have died.”
The accident occurred on December 1, 2015 on the Mapusa-Guirim stretch of the highway, when the girl was on a walking pilgrimage from Malvan to Old Goa for the novenas and feast of St Francis Xavier. She had been knocked down by Remo’s car which was being driven by his son Jonah. The girl was walking towards Panjim when the accident occurred. A separate FIR has been filed against Remo’s son at Mapusa police station for rash and negligent driving.
According to girl, on December 1 Remo had said the same thing to her and repeated it when he visited GMC on December 3. Incidentally, December 3 was the feast day of St Francis Xavier.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues has lodged a complaint against Remo at Mapusa Police Station on December 17. The same complaint is being transferred to Agassaim Police Station.
