Fire Dept attended to 1100 calls, saved property worth Rs 2.54 crore

PANJIM: The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services   received as many as 1443 emergency calls from across the State and attended to 1100 calls saving property worth Rs 2.54 crore following destruction caused by Cyclone Tauktae.

The total damage caused to property is estimated approximately Rs two crore on account of the cyclone.

The fire force headquarters responded to highest 155 emergency calls followed by Mapusa fire station (150) and Vasco fire station (120).

In the jurisdiction of fire force headquarters, the property damaged is estimated to be approximately Rs 2.65 lakh and the property saved is Rs 80,000.

The Panjim fire station attended to 59 calls and saved property worth Rs 13 lakh. The damage caused to property is estimated at Rs 2.40 lakh. The Pernem fire station saved property worth Rs 36 lakh after responding to 73 calls. The property damaged in Pernem is approximately Rs 23 lakh.

The Mapusa fire station, which attended to 150 calls, saved property worth Rs 45 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 23 lakh approximately. 

Similarly, the Pilerne fire station attended to 73 emergency calls and saved property worth Rs 17 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be approximately Rs 93 lakh.

The Vasco fire station attended to 120 calls and saved property worth Rs 48 lakh. The damage caused to property is around Rs 15 lakh.

The Ponda fire station saved property worth Rs.3 lakh after attending to 89 emergency calls. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 1.8 lakh approximately.

The Old Goa Fire Station attended to 46 calls in its jurisdiction and saved property valued at Rs 9.3 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 3 lakh approximately.

The Kundaim fire station saved property worth Rs 6 lakh. It attended to 45 calls. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 12 lakh approximately.

The Bicholim fire station attended to 48 calls and saved property worth Rs 13 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 4.8 lakh approximately.

The Valpoi Police Station attended to 20 emergency incidents calls and saved property worth Rs 3 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be approximately Rs 75,000. The Margao fire station attended to 93 calls and saved property worth Rs 17 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be Rs 5.8 lakh approximately.

The Verna Fire Station attended to 51 emergency calls and saved property worth Rs 20 lakh. The property damaged is estimated to be approximately Rs 6 lakh.

The Curchorem Fire Station attended to 54 calls and saved property worth Rs 13 lakh. The damage caused to property is estimated at Rs 4.8 lakh.

The Canacona fire station attended to 47 emergency calls and saved property worth Rs 6.6 lakh. The property damage is estimated to be Rs 3 lakh approximately.

According to Fire and Emergency Services Director Ashok Menon, the priority for response was given to clearing of uprooted trees and blocking of highways, major district roads, residential houses, electricity transformers, poles and wires.

A total of 242 fire fighting personnel across the 15 fire stations in the State have been working round the clock for the past seven days to ensure that the citizens get the required help in such eventuality, he said.

The emergency calls were pertaining to uprooting of trees such as mango, banyan, nilgiri, casurina, gulmohar, tamarind, jackfruit etc on major district roads, highways, residential houses, electrical transformers, poles and lines etc, Menon added.
