Flying squad raids sand extraction site at Uguem

SANGUEM: The flying squad led by Mamlatdar of Sanguem Pravinjay Pandit raided an illegal sand extraction site at Uguem and seized around 11 cubic metres of sand which was stacked in a private property.

The sand was illegally extracted from the local river adjacent to a  private property using traditional methods.

Acting on information, the Sanguem Mamlatdar accompanied by surveyor Jiva Dessai, geologist from Mines Department Sanford Fernandes and olice officials descended at the site and seized the illegally extracted sand

Pandit informed that as per the directives of the Supreme Court, the illegally extracted sand will be dumped back into the river today with the help of a JCB machine.

Pandit also informed that an FIR has been registered against the land owners at the Sanguem Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Sanguem police have also recently register a FIR against another local for illegal extraction of laterite stones.
