Four fishermen rescued from sinking vessel off Chapora coast

MAPUSA: Four fishermen were rescued from a sinking fishing fishing trawler off the coast of Chapora on Thursday morning.

The boat was returning after fishing and when it reached at a distance of around 1.5 km from the Chapora jetty, it capsized.

All four who were on board jumped into the sea however, they were rescued by trawler workers from a nearby fishing vessel.

Those who were rescued were identified boat owner Chudgo Gaonkar (68), Krishna Gaonkar (40), Dasram (22) and Sandeep (21).

Speaking to O Heraldo, Ganesh Govekar, Station Fire Officer (SFO) Mapusa, said, “We received a call at around 10 am and we immediately dispatched a team with equipment. When we arrived at the spot, the fishermen were already rescued by locals.

The boat was later retrieved near Morjim. No loss was reported in the incident.”
