Curtorim Primary Health Officer, Dr Rajendra Borkar said the health authorities have intensified its anti-malaria drive in Aquem Baixo village with around 8-10 fresh cases of plasmodium vivax being detected at the fag end of last month. “We have deployed four workers for anti-larvae operations in the village to ensure that the battle against malaria is taken to its logical conclusion. Our workers have collected around 40 slides today and the report is awaited,” he said.
Aquem-Baixo village had witnessed an outbreak of malaria at the beginning of last month, prompting the Curtorim health centre to launch a massive offensive in and around a construction site. However, Dr Borkar admitted that around 8-10 fresh cases of malaria were detected a week ago, indicating that the situation is giving a cause for concern to the health authorities, though the situation is termed well under control.
