Gada traders to fight high power tariffs

MARGAO: The Gada Traders Association (GTA) has decided to fight the exorbitant electricity tariffs imposed on the business premises of Margao’s gaadekaars and also the moves to suppress their business expansion.

The gaadekaars were recently shocked to learn that the electricity rates had jumped by around 400 to 500 per cent. They were also troubled by the authorities’ delay in responding to their requests for repairs and expansion of business in the market.
MLAs Vijai Sardessai and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco extended their support to the GTA, which consists of over 200 Margao gaadekaars, and pledged to raise the issue in the Assembly.
“A national party does not do anything for local people, but a regional party can help. We are ready to barge into the electricity department asking for an explanation for the increased tariffs,”said Sardessai.
