MARGAO: Green Goa Foundation has served a legal notice on the Margao Municipal Council to immediately remove stalls erected on the road and create sufficient space for movement of pedestrians in the old market or face appropriate proceedings in the High Court.
In his notice, GGF Chairman Raison Almeida through his lawyer Adv Amey Kakodkar said that the MMC has allotted the stalls on the entire footpath and a major portion of the road causing great inconvenience to the pedestrians who are forced to walk on the road as well as to the motorists, who are forced to drive amidst pedestrians. “This is particularly difficult for the drivers, who are elderly and ladies who find it hard to navigate in such chaos”, Almeida said.
The notice made it clear to the Chief Officer that the action of the civic body is in breach and violation of the orders passed by the High Court, adding “it appears that you have done so wilfully and deliberately paying scant regards or respect to the orders passed by the High Court”.
