PANJIM, SEPT 27
The Nationalist Youth Congress president Rajendra Ghate resigned from the post to gain entry into the parent group of the party.
Speaking to Herald, Ghate said that when Dr Willy & Co resigned from the party he was assured of an entry into the parent group.
‘They (the MLAs and president Dr Pegado) asked me to continue for two months as NYC president and assured to induct me into the core group,’ Ghate said adding that the assurance was not fulfilled.
‘Later they asked me to continue further,’ he continued.
At the NCPs last meeting, I said enough was enough and resigned as NYC president, he said.
Ghate said without resigning from post he was not eligible for entry into parent group, which consists of the three MLAs, Dr Hede and party president.
He said that at the same meeting it was also decided to nominate Nitesh Pandit and Edwin Fernandes for the post of NYC president.
‘The names have been sent to NCP High Command and they are sending an observer Sonia Gupta to Goa on September 29 to name the new president,’ Ghate said.
Efforts to get a quote from NCP state president Dr Pegado proved futile.
