PANJIM: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation’s board meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday approved the proposal of setting up filtration units for providing potable and treated water to the Verna industrial estate and surrounding area. The proposal would take shape before the end of monsoons.
Two units, of 10 MLD each, would be set up at Verna Industrial Estate and one at the hill-slopes of Verna that would provide water to Loutolim and other villages. Currently, the estate, which requires five to eight MLD water was supplied only two MLD, triggering an acute shortage.
CM met the officials of GIDC, WRD and PWD to chalk out a plan to treat raw water and provide it to the industrial estate.
Parrikar said that that government would pump out 30 MLD of raw water from the Selaulim reservoir for the industrial estate. A filtration plant and pipeline costing Rs 52 crore would be set up in the industrial estate within two to three months that will suffice the requirement of the units located here, he said.
The chief minister said that the Water Resources Department has diverted 30 MLD water to Verna of which 10 MLD filtered water would be provided to the industrial estate and the villages located around Verna, while the balance 10 MLD raw water would be supplied to Zuari Industries Limited.
“The ZIL will set up their private filtration plant,” he said.
The government has also proposed to set up State-of-the-art electric power transmission facility at Verna, and GIDC would provide power to the industrial estates within six months from now.
